The students worked together in small groups to build a tower out of school supplies, such as pipe cleaners, pencils, rubber bands, index cards, and cups. The challenge was to build the tallest tower, but also to support the weight of an apple at the top. Each group succeeded and several groups tied for first place with a height of 14". Great work, third grade!!

The students jumped right in with a STEM Challenge on the second day of school! They will be working in groups every day in my classroom, so we completed the Marshmallow Challenge to practice the skill of working with others respectfully and quietly. The students did a great job! It's the first day of a new school year and I am excited to have the opportunity to learn with these children! In fact, I was so anxious that I found myself awake at 5:00 AM this morning and spent quite a while just sitting behind my desk looking out at the empty desks. In a little over an hour, those desks with be filled with 27 smiling, energetic, caring students who will make a huge impact in my life. I look forward to learning just as much from them as they will learn from me. I know that this will be the best year yet!
