As I was sitting at work on Saturday morning, I came across a link to a very inspirational video. This video can be found on E:60. "E:60" is ESPN's first prime-time newsmagazine, which includes profiles and stories on emerging and established sports.
The particular video that I watched was titled "Perfect." It features a couple with a family of four girls. The second oldest girl, Paisley, has down syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder in which the person has 47 chromosomes, instead of the normal 46. The chromosome 21 has a third copy. Typically associated with physical growth delays and intellectual disabilities, down syndrome effects nearly one of every 691 babies in the United States each year.
The father in the video had a vision that his life and his family's life would be perfect. He believed that down syndrome would ruin that image. However, after the birth of Paisley, his life changed forever.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work in a mild intervention classroom for the past five weeks. The greatest lesson that I have learned is that every child is special. By helping children learn, I have also gained patience, understanding, and just unconditional love. Children are truly a blessing, each and every one.
